Introduction:

  1. There is something that all of us have in common right now.
    1. It has been given to us.
    2. We are using it.
    3. When it is gone, it cannot be recalled.
    4. What is it? TIME.
  2. Thomas Edison, the inventor, said that time is the most important thing in the world.
  3. If wisely used, it may be a blessing.
  4. If improperly used, it is a waste.
  5. Discussion:
  6. The meaning of time.
    1. It is a measured duration.
    2. We measure everything by time.
    3. Work.
    4. Church service.
    5. Date when we were born. Etc…
      1. We cannot stop it.
      2. We cannot call it back.
      3. We cannot prolong it.
      4. The misuse of time.
        1. By wasting it.
          1. Many wonder why they cannot succeed.
          2. They wonder why they have not learned.
          3. We sometimes bring misery into our lives when we misuse time.
    6. By being lazy. (Proverbs 19:15 15 Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger.)
    7. By working too much.
    8. By playing all the time.
    9. By gossiping. (1 Timothy 5:1313 And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.)
    10. By reading things that are not appropriate.
    11. By watching too much T.V. or things that are not appropriate.
    12. By worrying
    13. By filling the day with useless things.
    14. We need to understand some facts about time.
      1. God has given us the time we have.
      2. We have the time to do what we want to do.
      3. It should be used wisely.
      4. Time is short. (James 3:13 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.)
      5. We will have to answer for how we have used it. (Matthew 12:36-37 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”)
      6. We should make proper use of our time.
        1. Should use part of our time to worship God. (Acts 20:7 7 Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.)
        2. We should use part of our time for work.
        3. We should use part of our time for rest.
        4. We should use part of our time for play.
        5. Should use part of our time for our family.
        6. We should let our light shine in everything we do.
        7. We need to study God’s word, so we know how we should live. (2 Peter 1:2-3 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,)
        8. We need to pray.
        9. We need to visit the sick.
        10. We need to teach our neighbors.
        11. All we have is time.
          1. Yesterday.
            1. It is already gone.
            2. We cannot get that time back.
    15. Tomorrow.
      1. It is yet to come.
      2. It may not come for us.
    16. Today.
      1. It is time to obey God. (Romans 13:11 11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.)
      2. Now is the accepted time. (Eph. 5:16 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.)
      3. Must redeem the time. (Eph. 5:16)
      4. Today is the time to be holy.

Conclusion:

  1. How are you using your time?

Is it for self or for God?
